August

Release of the Options Paper Safe at Home: A Criminal Justice Framework for Responding to Family Violence in Tasmania.


August / September

Consultation with key government and non-government stakeholders about new family violence legislation and the integration of justice response systems.


December

Submission of a fully costed Business Case for Safe at Home to Cabinet for approval.



2004 

 
May

Safe at Home launched by the Premier and the Attorney-General.


July

Training of facilitators for the Family Violence Offender Intervention Program.


September

Family Violence Response and Referral Line launched.
This becomes the first 24/7 family violence response line to operate in Tasmania.

Police Victim Safety Response Teams begin operation.
These specially trained Police teams are the first of their kind in Tasmania.

Department of Justice Court Support and Liaison Service comes online to deliver enhanced court support services for victims.


 November

The first of the lawyers who will specialise in family violence cases is appointed by the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania.

Consultation forums are held to obtain input into the development of a model therapeutic service for children and young people who have experienced family violence in Tasmania.

Tasmanian Parliament passes the Family Violence Bill.

 


 December

The Safe at Home advertising campaign begins.



  2005 

 March

Family Violence Act 2004 comes into effect.

April

The Department of Health and Human Services Family Violence Counselling and Support Service, including the first specialist children and young person's counselling service is launched.

June

The Department of Justice Child Witness Support Service comes online to provide support to child victims and guide them through the justice system.
